These nut free, diary free bliss balls are a hit in the lunch boxes, or great for the fridge that the kids can grab when they are hungry after school. I use them as a dessert option as well. *not just for the kiddies*

I remember when my eldest nephew went to school, and my sister in law asked me for nut free healthy recipes. All excited, I went to all my favourite recipe bloggers and found lots of great muffins, balls, and bars but I just couldn’t find any good nut free options. Fast forward a few more years, having my own kids at school asking for fun treats in there lunchbox (including my biggest kid, my husband!), I knew it was time to get experimenting.
I love these bliss balls because they kinda taste naughty, but they aren’t and the texture is soft for my 2 year old to sink her teeth into without getting stuck. Full of all the good stuff like protein, fibre, omega 3’s and magnesium, these little balls of joy seem to be on high rotation in our household at the moment. I hope they end up in yours as well. Enjoy!
Ingredients
-
2 cups of rolled oats
-
24 dates
-
¼ cup desiccated coconut*
-
¼ 100% maple syrup
-
¼ cup cocao powder
-
¼ hemp seeds
-
*approx. 1-2 cups extra desiccated coconut for the outer layer
Directions
In a blender, add oats, coconut, and maple syrup.
In a separate ball, add a splash of hot water to the dates and hempseeds and mix in to allow for the hemp seeds to activate. The water will also soften the dates for an easier blend.
Blend together until the mixture is thick and consistent.
Grab a serving tablespoon and spoon out part of the mixture to roll into a ball in your hands.
Roll the balled mixture into desiccated coconut to seal the mixture in.
Refrigerate for half hour or until you want to consume them.
Lasts in the fridge (if not finished beforehand) for 2-3 weeks.
