As the weather takes a deep dive in temperature, it’s time to sooth our souls (and our taste buds). This is such a 'so-good-it-must-be-naughty-but-it’s-not' kinda drink.

Most people react to cows milk when ingested in quantities more than 20ml so this is a great alternative, providing gut loving components such as grass fed butter and cacao powder.
This recipe calls for Panela sugar as it has a higher concentration of minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, and maganese. It is less processed and really just tastes like brown or raw sugar (in my opinion, heated you don’t taste the difference!)
Coconut milk is extremely unique as it contains medium chain fatty acids, which helps with the good bacteria in your gut and strengthens the intestinal barrier.
This hot chocolate comes out thick and rich so I find you feel content with only 100ml.
It also got the kids soccer training tick of approval so thats a win in my eyes!
Little note: If you suffer from indigestion or heart burn/reflux omit the peppermint (and shy away from peppermint tea particularly whilst you are symptomatic). Peppermint is known to exacerbate symptoms and discomfort.
Ingredients
-
1 x 400g tin of Coconut Milk
-
2 tablespoons cacao powder
-
2 tablespoons panela sugar
-
2 tablespoon grass fed butter
-
Pinch of sea salt
-
5-10 drops ( ½ teaspoon) peppermint essence
Directions
In a saucepan over the stove, add coconut milk, cacao powder, panela sugar and bring to a boil.
Add the grass fed butter and stir in.
Add the peppermint essence and give it a taste. This is where you can tweak it to your liking adding cacao powder and panela sugar to how you like it.
Pour into a mug and relax with a book in your favourite spot. Enjoy!
Recipe Note
Few suggestions to products (not sponsored just like giving example of clean products):
Coconut milk: Mr Chen (no added thickeners or fillers or preservatives).
Cacao powder: Any will do as long as it is 100% raw cacao (and not cocao as this is where they add preservatives and sugar).
Panela Sugar: I use the Organic Mountain panela from Harris farm. Same thing; as long as it's 100% organic Panela, you know you will be reaping the benefits of the mineral value as the processing to exact the sugar is minimal.
Grass Fed butter: Pepe Saya- go on, indulge!
